About Us

At Sky-Wings Academy, we are committed to providing inclusive and high-quality education. Our vibrant community fosters mutual respect and care, celebrating the achievements of every individual within the school. We encourage all members of our community to give their best, share their talents, and embrace their unique identity.

Our school values the importance of responsibility and duty to the local, national, and international communities to which we belong.

Sports

Sports is an important part of our daily school routine. Our sports department works with our learners to develop physical skills in addition to developing their confidence, self-esteem, respect, and teamwork. We believe these qualities, among fairness and the encouragement of others, play an important role in developing a well-rounded character in our learners, which they are able to carry with them, on and off of the playing grounds.

Physical Education is an inclusive subject with all learners being given the opportunity to play and even represent the school in organized matches among themselves against other schools with at a level appropriate to their ability. It is during these matches, no matter which sport, where our learners’ hard work and development truly shine. It is not just their physical abilities that we see, but their ability to embody our school values: resilience, confidence, open-mindedness, discipline and kindness

The learners appreciate the importance of physical fitness and enjoy both the informal sporting activities and opportunities for recreation within and outside the school grounds.

Beyond the Classroom

Co-curricular activities builds inclusivity and helps students to develop important life skills such as leadership, confidence, and teamwork. At Tanganyika Schools we believe that offering co-curricular activities is an essential part of learning. As such, we strive to create as many opportunities as possible for our learners to extend their learning and passions beyond the classroom. Our extensive range of co-curricular activities range from public speaking and debating,  music and art, dance and drama, scouting among others all of which promote a love of learning beyond the academic programme and gives the learners the opportunity to try new things.

The school also organizes outings around the district to unwind, refresh and also widen the learners’ cultural horizons and to bring what they have learnt in various subjects to life.

Giving back to our community as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility gets our learners out to get involved. It continues to build empathy in them.  In giving back, everyone can join in and be included, no matter their ability or interest.

Leadership

We provide our learners with a unique learning experience, which gives them the skills and confidence to lead and manage in a variety of settings and situations. Our leadership initiatives promote development, commitment and teamwork and enable our learners to experience what it is like to stand up and take the lead.

We promote leadership in the broadest sense – not limited to traditional public roles. We are committed to developing confident individuals who are leaders at home, amongst their peers and friendship groups, their community and, later on, in their workplaces.

We believe that leadership learning, both implicit and explicit, can and should permeate all subjects. Embedding leadership within the curriculum provides our learners with the language and tools to help them develop their leadership skills.

Within the regular timetable, leadership skills are taught as distinct behaviours throughout the curriculum. During the year, we also organize a Leadership Day Event that showcases intensive learning experiences, which are linked to the learners’ passions, aspirations and development needs. Learners also participate in cross-curricular projects that foster their leadership capacities and provides opportunities for them to apply their leadership skills in real and simulated age appropriate situations.

Behaviour and Discipline

Our approach to behaviour and discipline can be described as “tough love”. We operate a firm but fair approach. We apply this rigorously, robustly and consistently. We want to make sure that disruptive behaviour by a few learners does not damage the achievements of the many. The Codes of Conduct for Staff and learners have set out our expectations clearly.

Rewards and Sanctions

Every learner is special and we regularly identify, reward and celebrate their many successes. These successes can be in any aspect of school life. They include rewards for outstanding achievement, general academic improvement, leadership, regular attendance, punctuality, or setting a good example for others.

We use a wide range of rewards, ranging from simply saying “Well done!” to issuing award certificates during celebration assemblies or special events such as the annual presentation evening, to celebrate the achievements of our learners.
